Here is some good news for all those who use Twitter to network, get business visibility, vent, share links and blog posts, but have no tool to track or analyze traffic they are getting from the social network.
The micro-blogging site is launching a new tool called Twitter Web Analytics. The new service which is based on Backtype, the social analytics company that Twitter acquired in July, comes with three key benefits.
Christopher Golda, Twitter product manager, wrote in a blog post, Twitter is a powerful platform for websites to share their content and drive traffic and engagement. However, people have struggled to accurately measure the amount of traffic Twitter is sending to their websites, in part because Web analytics software hasnt evolved as quickly as online sharing and social signals.
According to Golda, the new tool will help website owners understand how much traffic they receive from Twitter and the effectiveness of Twitter integrations on their sites.
Three key benefits:- Twitters web analytics service will enable users to see how visitors interact with their website and how their advertising campaigns are faring.
The company plans to release the product as a free service to all website owners within the next few weeks.

Like handing out candy to kids on Halloween, central banks keep handing out money to adults that continue to magically grow out of electronically generated trees. The Bank of England added another 50b pounds to its asset purchase program bringing the total to 325b pounds. As a percent of UK GDP, the BoE balance sheet is about 21% vs about 20% for the Federal Reserve and almost 30% for the ECB as a percent of the Eurozone economy (not all of EU). The ECB will add more at the end of the month with LTRO Part II and the Fed still has all guns blazing ready to go with more. Its no coincidence as a result that the implied inflation rate in 5 yr US TIPS today is breaking out to the highest since July at 2.10% vs 1.5% last Sept. In Asia, Indonesia joined other Asian central banks and cut rates by 25 bps to 5.75%. The South Korea stayed on hold though. Chinas Jan CPI unexpectedly jumped to 4.5% y/o/y from 4.1% but some are blaming the timing of the New Yr. PPI rose just .7% y/o/y.

– Fitch Ratings on Monday lowered the rating outlook on Russia as political uncertainty increased and the global economic outlook has worsened since it confirmed the rating in September.
The rating outlook was downgraded to Stable from Positive, while the long-term foreign and local currency Issuer Default Ratings were affirmed at ‘BBB’.
“The likelihood of an upgrade has receded and the balance of risks is better reflected by a Stable Outlook,” said Charles Seville, Director in Fitch’s Sovereign group.
In the long-term, democratic development that leads to better governance could be positive for Russia’s ratings, but in the short term, uncertainty has increased.
The government under pressure is less likely to carry out a fiscal adjustment, to reduce the non-oil fiscal deficit towards its pre-crisis target of 4.7 percent of GDP. Although Russia has fiscal buffers in the shape of its sovereign wealth funds, the underlying position of the public finances has deteriorated.

French researcher Emmanuel Todd argues that though the implosion of the euro would produce a period of economic pain, panic, and instability, he says that shock wouldn’t last as long as some predict (18, maybe 24 months), before companies and governments picked up and moved on. And because many euro countries would be starting anew after having brushed off huge amounts of debt through various degrees of default, Todd argues the post-euro economies could be re-constructed on more solid fiscal foundations. Another consequence of such default, Todd says, would be freeing economies and governments from control of what he calls the “oligarchy” of mega-rich investors whose fortunes and interests drive and shape bond markets—and whose gain through safe government securities have influenced political leaders into building up huge public debt in the first place.
